Edit meets

Attending the editorial meetings can be real fun at times. Just to decide which headline should preceed which can eventually end up in verbal fights and tantrums. Only last night we were pondering wether london terror attack should be the first headline or the revaluation of yuan. Just the idea of having london terror attack as the first headline led to the verbal knockouts. Argument then moved from London to Srinagar blast and how death of 10 brown skin bastards means nothingto their own media and 4 small bomb blast in London means so much to the news channel. Although to some extent the argument is perfectly justified but one should not forget is that what's rare generally becomes bigger news headline. Everyday so many people die in Srinagar and Iraq (even americans die) and in a sense we all have now become insensitive to their deaths but if there is a blast in London or for that matter in America then its a bigger news simply because its rare. Its as similar as Bangladesh beating Australia is a bigger news beacuse everybody expects Australia to beat Bangladesh. So when the lean mean bastards are beaten by the minnows Bangladeshis then its rare and thus its a bigger news. Well the argument continued for about 45 minutes till someone intervened from the business section telling us that 2% increase in yuan will have hardly any implication on a common man (may god bless him) but after yesteday i have really developed a facination for these editorial meetings and hopefully if they continues to be as interesting as they are right now then i guess i am in Mumbai for a damn good time.
